They signed up for adventure.
A chance to see the world.
They went places we will never go.
Saw things we’ll never see.
Things we never should.
While we were in the pub at the weekend.
Miles from home, they missed family and friends.
First steps, birthdays and special moments gone.
Life went by while they put theirs on the line.
They had a laugh. A joke. A cry.
They made memories they’ll never forget.
And some they wish they could.
They sacrificed their freedom.
So we can enjoy ours.
So, if you’re able, raise a glass in your left hand.
And salute with your right.
We won’t give up on them.
They have battles left to fight.
